Born in Surrey in 1947, Count Dominic Charles Peter Bon de Sousa Pernes (perhaps better known as D. de S. Pernes) designed all five posters Lord of the Rings posters, but only drew three of them.

The Brit attended Ampleforth College School of Architecture, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, where he completed a BA honours in architecture. He is now the owner and managing director of a company specialising in architecture and design, and in the past he has been employed by celebrity clients such as Richard Branson and Adam Ant.

Interestingly he is a keen saxophonist and has played with the likes of Mark Knopfler, Sting and Bryan Ferry, as well as having been a member of the band Goldie. They are considered a one hit wonder band, even though they released many songs after “Making Up Again” (https://youtu.be/0bRllnahcZQ) it was unfortunately the only song to achieve any chart success (number 7 in 1978) and the band even appeared on the iconic British television show Top of the Pops! In 2013 he had a role in the movie Taming the Apex, which was a documentary style film about four stories from four different racing drivers.
